Your résumé: shorter, plainer, Australian-style
Australian employers generally expect a clear résumé that leads with recent roles and outcomes. It is common to leave out a photo, date of birth and marital status. Spell out US-specific terms (for example, explain levels like “L6” or “Staff” by scope and team size) so a local hiring manager can compare you fairly.
Salary is quoted “plus super”
Australian salaries are usually discussed as a base amount plus superannuation, the compulsory retirement contribution employers pay on top of most wages. The Superannuation Guarantee rate is 12% from 1 July 2025 (ATO). When you compare offers with US packages, compare base plus super, not base alone.
Leave and notice work differently
The National Employment Standards set minimum entitlements for most employees, including four weeks of paid annual leave for full-time employees and minimum notice periods when an employer ends employment (Fair Work Ombudsman). Your own notice period is set by your contract or award, so read it before you resign anywhere.
Interviews across the time difference
Australian business hours fall in the US evening or night. Expect early-morning or late-evening video interviews, and say upfront which windows work for you. Many hiring processes include a technical or case interview, a values or behavioural interview, and reference checks with recent managers.
